About this page:
From this page you can find any of 200 Ontario newspapers (including contact information for most), as well as the major dailies. Also on this page are journalism links inside and outside Canada, news releases from both the provincial and federal governments (it always pays to keep on eye on the hucksters), and sources for news from all over the world as well as from the entertainment and technological fields. Even a bit of "weird" news, should you be looking for some filler.

In the right sidebar are quick-jumps to the various categories where you will find more information and sources.

Ontario Community Newspapers Online
Over 150 community newspapers, checked when I can get to it. If you find a broken link please, please, please report it.

Major Ontario Dailies:

You can also use the Open Directory Project listing of Ontario papers, but many of their links are outdated.

News Sources & Ontario Newspapers

Journalist Sources

Internet Sources for Journalists and Broadcasters
With listings for journalism and broadcasting it's an excellent source for information including:

Journalism Links for Canada which has loads of great links (better than Sidebar, dammit) like

  • Julian Sher's JournalismNet.com with its own links to:
  • J-Net Training
  • Spy On People, many of these tips are now out of date or something. I've tried several with no luck, but I haven't tried them all. (My own standby technique is simply to type the name, along with some kind of identifying feature, into Google. I will be posting new methods that I've tested out along with "Spy" software in a few weeks.

Entertainment, Interactive & Weird News

Showbizwire
Showbizwire is excellent for fast, informed, and current entertainment news. Not really a source itself, Showbizwire selects interesting and current top headlines from various online suppliers such as Billboard, E! Online, Hollywood Reporter, and Rolling Stone.

ZDNet Interactive iWeek
Specializes in
Internet related issues.

Oddly Enough
[This service is presently unavailable. If it doesn't return soon, I'll replace it with something else.] This service from Reuters focuses on odd and bizarre news stories. Good for
filler or as inspiration for features.

American & World News

Slate (In-depth American coverage)
Slate's style of "full coverage journalism" provides incredibly in-depth coverage of American issues with special focus on the actual media coverage of these issues. Especially interesting is the regular column, Today's Papers.

Third World Network
The
Third World Network (TWN) has a strong focus on World Trade issues viewed largely from the perspective of developing countries. The copy is professional, but without flair.

GlobalInfo
Globalinfo is another excellent source of well researched and professionally balanced world news stories. Again, however, the presentation is dry and accessible only to the committed reader.
